about
Stranger's Eyes was co-written by Charlie and his fellow artist and friend Freddie Dickson. They joined forces to record the song with mutual friend Ivo Vollering at Ivo’s vibey home studio in Berlin. The three of them threw ideas around and had loads of fun passing instruments back and forth, contributing to the track with piano, guitars and percussion.
Stranger’s Eyes has a dreamy, bleary eyed feeling and is more reflective and mellow than Charlie’s last release, "Love Letters.” It’s inspired by someone who has become jaded and cynical too young, after suffering one too many disappointments in life. They get a glimpse of a new beginning when they see someone in a crowded bar and catch eyes, and for a moment everything is possible again.
lyrics
STRANGER’S EYES.
VERSE 1
Do you ever, ever feel lonely stepping into the night?
Oh you’ve been here before, and it’s getting tired
But you don’t think, you don’t think twice you’re just a face in the crowd
Drunken conversations going round and round
We started high now we’re coming down
And I know, I should be gone by now..
CHORUS
But here I am, pretending I’m having the time of my life
Thinking ‘bout leaving then to my surprise
I find myself throwing back one more drink
To calm my nerves, I’m closer now,
Was that a smile, or just a trick of the light
I think I found love in a stranger’s eyes
I think I found love in a stranger’s eyes.
VERSE 2
No I never, never really had any confidence
I’ve been shot down one too many times
And brick by brick I built the wall
Never really hoping for something more
So resigned and too cynical
Still stuck on times when I lost it all
And I know, I should have moved on by now..
MIDDLE 8
Oh and maybe I’ve been the death of the party
Maybe I should give it one more roll of the dice
Oh and maybe I’ve been the death of the party
Maybe I should give it one more roll of the dice
And give myself another try.
CHORUS
But here I am, pretending I’m having the time of my life
Thinking ‘bout leaving but to my surprise
I find myself throwing back one more drink
To calm my nerves, I’m closer now,
Was that a smile, or just a trick of the light
I think I found love in a stranger’s eyes
I think I found love in a stranger’s eyes.
