Wide Open was inspired by a speech at my wedding, from an older man who talked about how truly opening himself up to his wife emotionally meant overcoming lots of toxic ideas around masculinity and how overcoming them over time was one of his greatest achievements. The song was written in half an hour at the very end of a day spent working on another song, it's a rare and delightful thing when an idea takes shape before your eyes and carries something true and heartfelt. It was recorded in Berlin and London in Autumn 2019.
